Official PC stores
The publisher’s launch press release lists Steam, GOG, the Epic Games Store and the Microsoft Store. Steam and GOG both showed $29.99 with a 20% launch discount to $23.99 when we checked on October 18, 2026. The Steam offer ends on October 30.
All four stores sell the Windows PC version only, and there is no console download. Buying through any of them supports Balancing Monkey Games and Hooded Horse directly. Our price guide covers regional pricing and the discount window.
Free and cheaper legal options
The free Steam demo is the only legal way to play at no cost. It covers the opening systems, not the full game’s later planets and story. Download it from the demo button on the Steam store page.
PC Game Pass and Game Pass Ultimate include the game from launch day, according to Xbox Wire. Subscribers install it through the Xbox app on Windows. Access lasts while the game stays in the catalogue and your subscription is active.
Why torrent and cracked copies are a bad idea
Unofficial download sites are not licensed to distribute the game. Files from them can contain malware, a real risk on a PC you also use for banking or work. You also lose cloud saves, achievements and support.
Unofficial copies are usually frozen at one version. Beyond These Stars received three hotfixes in its first 36 hours, including fixes for stuck Kewa conversations and a Kitchen that produced nothing. An outdated copy keeps those bugs.
Check your PC before downloading
Steam lists Windows 10 64-bit, an Intel Core i5-6600 or Ryzen 3 3200G, 8 GB of memory and a GTX 960 or RX 570 as the minimum. The game needs 7 GB of storage, and an SSD is recommended. Our system requirements page has the full minimum and recommended table.
Steam Deck owners can install it from their library, and Valve rates it Playable. Our Steam Deck page covers the controller and text-size notes. Steam Cloud keeps saves in sync between a desktop and a Deck.
After you install
Story Mode is the developer’s recommended start. Read our beginner guide before your first settlement, and the Peeps guide if workers stand idle. The patch notes page lists every hotfix so you know your version is current.
